What I find a bit frustrating is just how much of the lore was irretrievably lost from RDR2 with several game mechanics and activities being cut from the final release.

The following audio bits can still be found in the game's files tagged as GREET_DUTCH_CHESS. Apparently, Dutch was supposed to be a rather avid chess player and, for whatever reason, there are recordings of Charles playing with him. At the same time, there's nothing left of this in Dutch's audio recordings, so it's only Hosea and Charles that still have those.

The Season 16 reaping has come to a close, but let’s meet two of our tributes yeah?

The District One Female who lacks a name wandered up to the roof top, running into the District Five Male named John Smith.

At some point in the kid’s search for the tenth floor, they wound up on the roof, missing the floor entirely. They weren’t sure how, but directions weren’t their strong suit.

They sat down on the floor, closing their eyes as if they were meditating.

Methodical steps with a travel speed of 1.34 meters hit the pavement stairs as John walks up to the roof, when he eventually arrives to see it occupied, he decides to speak up.

"Hello there, my name is John Smith, first name John, last name Smith. Apologies for the sudden greetings..." He trails off as he realises he can't tell if this was a miss or mister.

The kid opened their eyes, then turned to wave at John with a smile.

“Hello there, John Smith.”

"... No introductions for yourself?" He asks the younger child as he takes in the view from the rooftop.

“Ah! I’m sorry! My name is,” the kid opened and closed their mouth as if they said something, but no sound came out.

Blinking, John stares at the kid before chuckling, "ah, did you mean that your name is or are you just at a loss for words?" He asks, doing his best to give meaning behind the silence.

The kid seemed to get very excited by the idea that someone might understand their name first try.

“My name is just silence!” They said with an excited laugh, standing up. “My friends call me Blank, though! Because that’s what my name is in the records, just a blank space!”

"Haha, well it's very nice to meet you . What brings you to this quarter's games?" He asks as he brings out his hand for a handshake.

The kid took a step over to him and shook his hand. “They pulled my piece of paper out of a bowl. Same for you?”

Shaking the child's hand, he also shakes his own head, "Nope, volunteered. I worked hard to set this up as is right now."

“You’re going to win,” the kid said, though it was in a way that wasn’t very clear.

The words themselves were clear, but what was meant by them wasn’t. It was almost like the kid was stating a fact, prediction, or fear. The kid, though, seemed to know exactly what they meant.

His response ends up being a short nod before speaking up, "yeah, I am going to win and it's going to be legendary."

Looking into the child's eyes, John brings up the resolve to ask, " ! Wanna help me make history?"

Good luck to them both, and may the odds be ever in their favor.

This artist clearly wasn't briefed on the story beyond the title and "kid has a parrot", but damn if it isn't evocative. Paperback artists should get their names on the cover, not hidden down by the ISBN. No kid would have shelled out for this at the book fair if it weren't for this leering little creep getting weird with his bird.
